The spectrum of frequencies used in 5G networks have been characterized as potentially carcinogenic to humans by the IARC. RF-EMF exposure occurs from a variety of sources, such as personal electronics and the environment (such as base stations for cell phones and broadcast antennas) medical applications) as well as occupational exposure. In the world, more than 5 billion people are using mobile phones, and usage is growing rapidly. Cell phone use is particularly high in low and middle-income countries in which over seventy percent of adults report owning one. The use of cell phones are also growing in countries with high incomes, with more than ninety percent possessing one.

5G networks will also use higher frequencies than 4G networks. This is because higher frequencies provide more bandwidth than lower frequencies. The mmWave bands, for example are much larger in bandwidth than the lower bands.


Dr. Curry's conflict of interests with industry
In August 2005 Dr. Curry contacted AI Life to inquire about an independent medical exam and medical record review. She also obtained a report from her primary care doctor who was Dr Goodkin, and a second report from Dr Glushakow. Both doctors did not agree with Doctor. Goodkin concluded that Curry's knees were weak enough to perform regular commuting duties. On January 18, 2006,  AI Life denied Curry's appeal. On April 11, 2006, she filed an appeal in detail of the rejection. For her argument, she referenced Dr. Dr. Glushakow's findings and an ear from a new medical expert, Dr. Dabrowski.

Curry's initial appeal was based on the fact the company AI Life had rejected her medical report even though she claimed she had a disability. AI Life subsequently requested that her condition be examined by an independent doctor, Dr. James M. Lee who is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon. In his February 2nd report, Dr Goodkin found that Curry's handicap did not prohibit her from working in a sedentary position. In the report, it was also noted that AI Life had not given Curry an ear-related modification that was reasonable for her particular condition.
